More than just a day on the farm!
The students have been visiting the Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre every 3 weeks to work with Isaac and learn about the running of the farm.
They have been working with Isaac learning skills such as walling, castrating lambs, tagging lambs, learning the importance of regular treating of sheep for fluck, worms etc. The students have been able to use the knowledge that they learnt with Isaac to complete important units for their qualification.
They are now in Year 11 and have been looking at how farms are diversifying. In particular theButchers Shop and the Lakeland Kitchen at the centre. They looked at the type of foods sold in the shop and kitchen, and came up with some new flavours. They were in two teams, one team added black pudding, chorizo and apple to the sausage meat of the scotch eggs. The other team designed caramel filled doughnuts, brandy snaps and profiteroles. They had a taster day for customers and orders were taken … it’s safe to say the results were excellent!
Being able to have hands on practical experience working with Isaac has been invaluable to the students.
